TITLE: Accepting God’s Dicipline 11/09/2020
“And Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, took either of them his censer, and put fire therein, and put incense thereon, and offered strange fire before the Lord, which he commanded them not. And there went out fire from the Lord, and devoured them, and they died before the Lord….The Lord spake, saying, I will be sanctified in them that come nigh me, and before all the people I will be glorified.” Leviticus 10:1-3 KJV
Our God looks upon the Heart. Our ministry should focus on God’s Word for it commands us toward obedience, dedication and honor to Him. We minister first to the Lord. No matter what we do, what we sacrifice nor what we serve, if God Does not get the glory, there can be no blessing. What we do in our ministry should ultimately allow God to get His Glory and not man.
Nadab and Abihu were anointed and then assigned to perform the priestly duties on behalf of the children of Israel. Their father Aaron had already had Holy oil poured on him and also the blood of the sacrifices through an elaborate ordination ceremony (Leviticus 8-9).
Aaron and his sons had obeyed God’s commandments. Thus when the week was over, they were ready to begin serving the Lord before His alter as the people came before the alter; offering the blood of animals for their sins and asking God’s forgiveness. Under the Old covenant, the people had a priesthood and were ordained Holy. God had told Moses that after the ordination, that the Glory of the Lord would appear and God did exactly that! (Lev 9:23).
Then, Nadab and his brother Abihu did something terribly wrong due to their pride and selfishness. They tried to present the atonement sacrifices for the people their own way without consulting the authority of God neither the authority of their father nor Moses. They supplied their own censors and fire that were not anointed by God. Moreover, they did not seek to glorify God alone from their hearts. So, they were killed for their disobedience and self-righteousness. “We must serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear: for our God is a consuming fire “Heb 12:28-29. God is a loving God that has sent us Grace in the New Testament. “For by grace we are saved through faith; and not of our selves; it is the Gift of God.” Eph 2:8.
