THE WORD for the WEEK

“ALL REAL MOMS” 05/24/2023

“So the king answered and said, “Give the first woman the living child, and by no means kill him; she is his mother. And all Israel heard of the judgement which the king had rendered; and they feared the king, for they saw that the wisdom of God was in him to administer justice.” I Kings 3:27-28

Hebrew is an ancient northern Semitic people that were ancestors of the Jews. In the Bible, the Jews are a special nation in God Eyes. God called this nation not because they were large, great or powerful but because God just LOVED them and God had a plan of GREATNESS for them. God had a plan of SALVATION. God announced the plan in Gen 3:15, to Abraham (Gen 12:1-3), to Isaac and Jacob-the Patriarchs of Israel-and to Solomon the 3 rd King of Israel, who is the character featured in the lesson summary today. God’s wonderful story continues through the biblical New Testament-that finally tells the coming of Jesus to earth and his much-needed death on the cross. God’s story will not end until God’s people go to heaven and see Jesus on the throne and all His Glory! To some that may sound fantastical but to those that believe, it touches the heart!

God had given Solomon the special gift of wisdom. Solomon acknowledged the sovereign rule of God over his life and the life of the nation. As the Leader now, this gift was put to test so all the people would know it existed in the King, to allow him to rule, and seek help from God. Here is the story: Two pregnant prostitute women delivered babies; one baby lived the other died. Since there were no witnesses when both babies delivered and it would be one-woman’s voice against the other, they stood before the king seeking his help to determine who would keep the one living baby. Solomon used the spirit of wisdom and discernment, bypassing the outward testimonies of the women and went straight to their hearts. “The heart of every problem is a problem in the heart”. Solomon suggested that the baby be cut in half alive thus facilitating each mom would get ½ child. The REAL mother said no to Solomon’s proposal in order that the baby would not suffer death but remain alive even though not with her. We trust that the truthful mother now awarded the living child would abandon her lifestyle and raise her child in the ways of the Lord.

This account of Solomon’s wisdom quickly spread through the land. All the people were amazed at how the King handled the mother’s dilemma. Solomon’s reputation as the wisest man who had ever lived spread quickly, and it brought glory to God. Not only was He wise he was a good administrator. He chose capable associates, allowed them to use their talents and thereby serve the Lord. Solomon served the Lord most of his life until his untimely death later in life. Saluting all REAL Moms!!!
