Title: Confidence 9/20/2020
“Therefore do not cast away your confidence which has great reward. For you have need of endurance, so that after you have done the will of God, you may receive the promise: He who is coming will come…The just shall live by faith; But if you draw back, My soul has no pleasure in you.” Hebrews 10:34-39
What does confidence really means? According to Google ©, confidence is the belief that one can rely on someone or something and have a firm trust. I believe that someone or something is GOD; GOD that exist in the God Head, the three-part Trinity (God, the Son (Jesus Christ) and the Holy Spirit). I admit I have made some mistakes and have had my back up against a wall with no way out. However, God is the only one who kept me. I believe not necessarily out of emotions but I believe because the Word of God talks to me and tells me so. That upholds me. Not because I am so good neither because I am well educated nor well-read, but I believe for no other reason than confidence in the miracle working of the Holy Spirit in Salvation. The Lord says, “I will make a covenant with you and put my laws into your hearts, and in your minds will I write them, and your sins and iniquities will I remember no more” (v.16-17). Therefore, I have full assurance of my faith.
In this Chapter of Hebrews, it speaks to the issue of faith, the Greek word of hope. A believer who has their focus on hope in the Lord will not waver. During this time of the Hebrew writer, the believers had begun to drift from the Word of God. This action will result in doubting the will and Word of God. Soon the believer will become dull toward the Word of God and become lazy in their spiritual life and lazy with relationships with other people whom God has placed in their lives. The person soon falls back into living a previous way of not living by faith. It is called “willfully sinning” or rejecting God and His way and rejecting the Holy Spirit. The issue is not that the person loses salvation but rather they should offer a sweet-smelling aroma of the sacrifice that pleases God. The person should turn to God for mercy and forgiveness.
How are you living today? We, as believers can have confidence that as we walk by faith, hope, read and study The Word, we have a Great High Priest who will guide us and perfect us! So Trust Christ!
Be Blessed. Dr. Dowe
