THE WORD OF THE WEEK
TITLE: “How to Live in Christ?” 02/23/2022
“But you know better now, so make sure it’s all gone for good: bad temper, irritability,
meanness, profanity, dirty talk. Don’t lie to one another. You’re done with that old life.
It’s like a filthy set of ill-fitting clothes you’ve stripped off and put in the fire. Now
you’re dressed in a new wardrobe. Every item of your new way of life is custom-made
by the creator, with his label on it. All the old fashions are now obsolete. Words like
Jewish and non-Jewish, religious and irreligious, insider and outsider, uncivilized and
uncouth, slave and free, mean nothing. From now on everyone is defined by and
included in Christ”. Colossians 3:8-11 Message Bible
In the Book of Colossians Chapter 3, the Apostle Paul is reminding the saints about
the things that belong to their past. As a Christian today, we are remindful and like-
minded. We focus and shape our lives based on the things of God rather than
concentrate on things and feelings in this world. Has anyone lately asked you,
“What’s your feelings on this or that…?” Christians focus on a “Holy” life. As
Christians, our first response is, “What does God say about that and where can I
support my response in the bible?”
God realizes we will never be perfect; although our nature becomes new (through
Christ), we still have old habits; evil desires may tempt us (James 1:13-15). But,
Christ’s new life in us has more power over evil desires. A prayer goes right
here…Lord God, Help Us! Amen.
Paul reminds the Colossians about social sins and behaviors toward others. People
can behave in evil ways and ruin relationships. Angry people may hit and hurt
people. People can lie to others openly; and disguise words/actions with other
motives. A lie is a misrepresentation of the truth no matter how well
articulated. A fact can be told with intentions for personal or self-gain. Christians
quit telling lies, and avoid evil, anger, malice, rage, slander, and filthy language.
God gets no glory from us in such ways. Paul describes obedience as taking off old
clothes and putting on new clothes everyday as Christians. As we know more
about Christ, we want to love Him, Obey Him which pleases Him and The Lord
God blesses us with His promises (Deut 29-30). Finally. We have people who live in different
natures and cultures, yet, none of these differences matter to God. No one is better than the other.
Everyone is equal as a Christian. So, “How Are We to Live in Christ?” Christians are to behave
in all the right ways with other Christians as written above.
