“And Mary said, My soul doth magnify the Lord, And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Savior” Luke 1:46-47 KJV
God’s purpose in the Redemptive plan of Salvation is not simply to grab us from darkness and save us from Hell, although this in its self is indeed a mighty feat. The WORD of God tells us in Ephesians; God’s purpose in our redemption is that the church, in all eternity, shall glorify His grace (Eph. 1:6). God is so good to us. In addition, since we are not saved by our good works; we cannot be lost by our bad works. We are saved only by our faith through Christ Jesus, by God’s grace; it is the gift from God! (Eph. 2:8).
Let’s compare two persons in the Advent story: 1). Mary, the mother of Jesus, understood accepting the principle of Faith as she says in Luke 1;38, “Behold your handmaid; Be it unto me according to thy WORD” (that I deliver your son into the world to save your people). This is the Advent period: a season to realize the “real” meaning of Christmas! Unlike, 2). Zechariah, the Priest (who was told by God’s angel Gabriel that he was to have the son he prayed for many years); He did not believe Gabriel who was sent from the presence of God. You see, Zachariah was faithful doing the priestly work in the temple but was faithless looking to God to do the work of the wishes in his heart (which was pregnancy in his wife).
The Song of Mary is depicted in Luke 1:46-56. Mary had hid God’s WORD in her heart. She quotes and refers to Old Testament scripture of her Jewish background in her song. It is obvious she wanted to magnify and praise her God rather than herself. God remembered her in her faithful walk of the heart.
What did God do for Mary?
1. God offered her salvation. This indicates Mary was a sinner just like us.
2. God offers salvation to all his people including us. To all who fear God with holy reverence, He offers mercy and help to the humble, homeless, helpless and discouraged for such a time as we have now,
3. God offers His WORD and He keeps His promises. God keeps his eyes on the nation and His church. God will help the people fulfill His purposes.
“JOY TO THE WORLD: THERE IS HOPE!”
