THE WORD for the WEEK
Title: Obstacles or Opportunities 8/17/2020
“And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write, He who is holy and true…He who opens and no one shuts, and shuts and no one opens”. I know your works. See, I have set before you ‘an open door’ and no one can shut it; for you have a little strength, have kept My word, and have not denied My name...Indeed, I will make those who say they are Jews, but who are not, worship before your feet and to know I loved you because you have kept My command to persevere…He who overcomes…I will write on him the name of the city of My God, the New Jerusalem, which comes down out of heaven…”. Revelation 3:7-13
As Christians, we know that Brotherly love is important! Afterall, we have learned it firsthand from the Trinity God-head: God, The Father (1 Thess 4:9), God, The Son (Jn 13:34), and God, The Holy Spirit (Rom 5:5). We love God because He first loved us. Jesus said, “A new commandment I give unto you, that you love one another, as I have loved you. Our charge then is to go and seek a lost world to tell them about a loving God.”
The church in Philadelphia was built on “loving the brethren”. This church had a mission to express love one to another. In doing this mission, the Philadelphia church so reach the lost world in the name of establishing God’s Kingdom right on earth. However, one day an earthquake hit the city in 17 BC destroying it, all its beautiful temples and caused residents to move to other areas. After the earthquakes, some of the church refused to move back but more disappointing forgot to go after and reach out to others for the Kingdom.
Jesus Christ presented himself to the church in Philadelphia telling them to get their fire back. Jesus told them that He is the one and only Holy and True God. Jesus said, “I have given you an open door”. Now will you look at this as Obstacles or Opportunities…
Jesus tells us today the same message. Do not trust the man in charge of the government like the people then were trusting the God over the land that had the earthquake. We need to trust the God who has charge over everything and gives authority of the affairs of his people. God sets before us open doors and remains faithful. Seize the opportunity to witness about Him and his goodness!
“He opens doors, we must work, He closes doors, we must wait!”
