THE WORD OF THE WEEK
TITLE: “Power in Prayer!” Week of April 3 – April 9, 2022
“Epaphras, who is one of you, a bondservant of Christ, greets you, always laboring fervently for you in prayers, that you may stand perfect and complete in all the will of God. For I bear him witness that he has a great zeal for you, and those who are in Laodicea, and those in Hierapolis”
Epaphras lived during the life of Paul the Apostle. Paul went through Europe spreading the gospel about Jesus Christ and proclaiming Salvation is only through Jesus! Paul states one day the work of the Holy Spirit, the divine grace of God and Power, worked a miracle in him. His life became transformed and the Lord God commissioned him to be Christ’s messenger.
Epaphras was led to Christ as Paul ministered in Ephesus. Then, Epaphras was led to return to his home in Colosse and share the good news of salvation. Paul never ceased from praying for others. Now Epaphras had acquired this vigor of prayer too! Prayer Changes Things because there is Power in Prayer! We suggest 3 fundamental priorities of a God-pleasing pattern to pray:1) Honor God’s Kingdom
2) Pray for Others and
3) Consider God’s Will for your Life Now.
True prayer depends on a spiritual relationship with a Holy God that enables us to call Him “Father”. When we pray our spirit speaks to God through faith in Jesus (Rom 8:14-17). When we pray, first give honor to God’s Kingdom and speak its existence: “Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done” (Luke 11:2). God wants His Kingdom extended & strengthened. Prayer is asking God to use us to get what he wants done so He is glorified. We rest all our requests secondly by stating God’s concerns firstly i.e. His Kingdom.
Epaphras did not pray in general for everyone and no one in particular but centered his prayer for Other Saints in Colosse where God had placed him to start a church. He carried saints in his heart fervently and, labored praying for them personally. He knew (as did Paul), No burden-No blessing. His will was for them to mature, in all-the-will of God. It takes time praying for others to mature(Col 2:9-10). Where has God placed you to pray?
Finally, the revelation of God’s Will is explicit in His Word. Read the Word to know the Word and mix Word in ur prayer. Epaphras understood God’s will that all are saved and none is lost. WORD and SPIRIT brings Life and changes life. Then we discover His Will Now (John 15:7).
We can ask him to provide our needs (not our greeds) for today, to forgive us for what we did yesterday and hope for a wonderful future that ends with him. (Luke 11:3-4).
